Inverted Nipple Correction

Inverted nipple correction is one of the more minor forms of breast surgery which we are able to perform at Austingraces.

While many patients with inward-pointing nipples feel extremely self-conscious about their breasts, in actual fact, 10-20% of the world’s women are born with the condition, and still more pick it up as a result of illness.

In most cases, women with this condition find that stimulation, temperature change, and breastfeeding can return their nipples to “normal”.

However, for those with Grade 3 nipple inversion, achieving protruding nipples is not quite so easy. Unevenness, tight swimwear, and difficulty in cleaning the nipples can all cause embarrassment and even lead to depression. In these cases, surgery is often the only option.

FAQ’s

What Happens In Theatre?
During the operation, small cuts are made on the area surrounding the nipple (the areola). The tight tissues which have previously pulled the tip of the nipple inwards are then released, causing the nipple to “pop” out again.
What Kind Of Anaesthetic Is Used?
An inverted nipple correction is usually performed under a local anaesthetic.
For How Long Will I Be Staying In Hospital?
Inverted nipple correction is usually performed as a day case, so you may return home shortly after your procedure.
How Long Do I Need To Take Off Work?
Most people are able to return to work within a few days after the operation.
What Are The Risks?
With any surgery, complications are possible. However, at Austingraces we are determined to make sure that you are aware of any potential problems, and feel comfortable enough to ask us about any concerns you may have during your first consultation.

With minor surgery such as this, small infections or wound breakdown can occur, and sensation on the nipple may change, although few patients find this bothersome. Breast feeding can also be difficult after the procedure, due to internal scarring.

Patients are usually extremely pleased with the results of this procedure. However, there is a small risk of some of the protrusion of the nipple being lost after the correction.
